Topic: The past, present and future of audit and assurance

Wolf Böhm is Technical Director Assurance Standards, Director International Affairs at the Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland [Institute of Public Auditors in Germany] (IDW). In this role, Wolf supports the Assurance and Accounting Board of the IDW, and other IDW committees and working groups, in their development of IDW assurance and related services pronouncements.

Wolf has also been a technical advisor on the IAASB and its predecessor, the IAPC, for all but two of the past 26 years and has served on numerous IAPC/IAASB subcommittees, working groups and task forces. This included being involved in the deliberations at the IAASB on the foundational assurance standard, ISAE 3000, issued in 2003, being a member of the task force that drafted ISAE 3000 (Revised) in 2013 and more recently as a member of the IAASB task force that drafted ISSA 5000, the first dedicated International Standard on Sustainability Assurance. Wolf is also in the IAASB working group developing implementation guidance on the application of ISSA 5000.

Prior to joining the IDW almost 27 years ago, Mr. Böhm obtained his B.Com. degree from U.B.C. and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (now Chartered Professional Accountant) in Canada and in the U.K., and as a registered Certified Public Accountant in the U.S.A. In addition, he worked for 14 years in primarily small and mid-sized accounting firms in Canada and Germany, largely in the area of assurance and related services.
